CAMRIA, represented by Nina Langeland (CAMRIA’s leader, University of Bergen), Iren Høyland (Stavanger University Hospital) and Stig Harthug (Haukeland University Hospital) joined the meeting of Nordic Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) centres organized by the Uppsala Antibiotic Center on 1-2 September 2022.
In total, 7 centres participated in the meeting: Uppsala Antibiotic Centre (Sweden), Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (Sweden), Centre for Antibiotic Resistance Research (Sweden), Turning the Tide on Antimicrobial Resistance Network (Norway), Centre for New Antibacterial Strategies (Norway), Multidisciplinary Centre of Excellence in Antimicrobial Resistance Research (Finland) and Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance in Western Norway (Norway).
The participants discussed synergy points across different AMR-related initiatives in Nordic countries. They had an opportunity to learn about the work of other centres, showcasing that there are many different ways that AMR researchers can collaborate to provide solutions to the AMR problem, and highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in order to advance in this area.
A very important goal of the meeting was creating an alliance and expanding collaboration among Nordic AMR centres so that the competencies and skills in different centres can be shared and coordinated with each other. Such collaboration could include e.g., expanding/sharing educational programs of the centres, arranging novel scientific exchanges and events, along with applying for national and international funding.
The next opportunity for the researchers working on AMR to get together will be Uppsala Antibiotic Days taking place on November 24-25, 2022.
